The Nusa Dewata Story

Nusa Dewata can be translated from the Balinese language as “Island of the Gods”.
The KM Nusa Dewata is an exceptionally beautiful 68’ (14’ beam) wooden sloop rigged motor sailor originally commissioned in Lembongan in 1992 by previous owners and operators Mark Coleman and Albert Taylor from Australia.
Mark and Albert, being Master Mariners, fishermen and surfers, had over 20 years experience operating boats in Australia and Indonesia. Together with the loyal Indonesian crew they served close to 1000 surfers….. they knew what surfers wanted!
We as current owners have rebuilt the boat (lengthening & widening) in 1998 where it has metamorpisised into the “prettiest cockroach in the fleet” & have at least doubled the clientele since taking over a well oiled operation.

Story Nusa Dewata

The Nusa Dewata was the first Indonesian vessel built specifically for surfing charters and has been fitted to approved safety standards to take passengers to sea.

She has all the survey required safety equipment which includes a 15 man life raft, flares, life jackets, fire fighting equipment, Icom SSB radio VHF radio, two hand held radios, EPIRB, GPS, depth sounder and an extensive first aid kit for all sorts of emergencies.

She is fitted with a reliable Mitsubishi PS 120 hp turbo main engine and a 1500 litre fuel tank giving her a range of over 500 nautical miles, with a cruising speed of 8 knots. Auxiliary power is supplied by an Onan 8kva/240 volt generator. Fresh water is supplied from a 1500 litre water tank.

The Nusa Dewata has a newly re-planked hardwood hull with full teak decking and interior. There is a laptop computer, on board as well as an iPod, TV, and DVD player for entertainment.

Below deck you will find comfortable fully air conditioned dorm style accommodation. There is a marine toilet as well as a traditinal style toilet with  an outdoor shower for a quick wash off after the surf.

The Nusa Dewata has plenty of shaded deck area both forward and rear for guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings and contemplate their next surf session.

As well as being one of the prettiest boats in the fleet, she is accompanied by a trusty 17’ aluminium speed boat with a  4 stroke 100 hp Yamaha outboard to ferry guests to and from the surf,  doing recconisance surf searches, and for recreational fishing and snorkelling.

Extensive game fishing equipment and snorkelling gear is supplied.
